Not so. For regular drip coffee, I think this unit would probably work very well; but if you want to make espresso, you should look elsewhere The second unit did not produce a fine grind either. Our first unit did not work after a few uses -- the power button did not function. we also have the breville die cast espresso machine, with which we are very happy. After our Krups grinder broke down, we purchased this one for espresso. I really wish this grinder could produce a finer grind, because overall, I like its sturdy design and slow, (relatively) quiet grinding. You'd think that if you bought a grinder and espresso machine from the same company, they would work well together.
The nay-sayers are a mystery to me. Larger capacity may be nice for larger pots of coffee, but overall, I would say buy it without hesitation. No turning back in our house. Terrific grinder; I have tried several (burr and otherwise), and this produces the nicest, most even grind I have ever seen in a home grinder. I have had zero trouble with static cling and mess, and the grinder is relatively quiet. By the way, this replaces the Cuisinart grind and brew (burr) that quit on us twice in less than a year.
It taste better than my hand grinder, I think. I roast my own beans. I use a course setting for a french press and the coffee taste great. It generates heat when left plugged-in(as per instructions). The first grinder jammed on the first bean. The replacement came quickly, and has been a solid grinder since April '09. don't leave it plugged-in.
Buy this - you will love it. He loves it. I got this at the last minute to go along with a coffee maker for my coffee-loving husband for Christmas. If I had only known that this grinder would be such a hit, I think I wouldn't have needed to get the new coffee maker at all. He said just the other day that he was raving about it at work - I said, "The coffee maker." He said, "Oh yeah, that's great too, but I was talking about the grinder." It works flawlessly, it's quiter than the standard old push-lid grinders, and while I would agree with other listings that the timer is odd (seconds rather than amount ground), my husband quickly figured out the corresponding time (2 pushes of the button) to get the right amount of coffee he wants every time.
I was hoping for being able to produce espresso and Turkish grounds. After much E-mail including pictures of the grounds produced they replace the machine.
Breville BCG450XL Conical Burr Grinder In my opinion this machine seems well made but unable to produce a fine enough grind to produce good espresso, even at the finest settings.
The new one was like the old one. Good looking machine but not for espresso.
I purchased this grinder with the espresso machine from Breville. I was disappointed and returned the grinder to Breville because it would not produce fine enough grounds to produce good espresso in their Breville die cast espresso machine.
At no time was it able to work the Breville espresso machine to get it to take even 18 seconds to pull a shot without tamping the grounds very hard.
